1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Cosmos Chat ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
These Terms constitute a legal agreement between you and Cosmos One ("we", "us", or "our"). We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
You must be at least 13 years of age to use Cosmos Chat.
2. Description of Service
Cosmos Chat is an AI-powered chat application that runs entirely on your device. The App provides:
- On-device AI chat using locally downloaded language models
- Conversation history storage on your device
- Customisable AI personas with different personalities and specialisations
- Optional voice input (speech-to-text) using on-device Sherpa-ONNX models
- Optional voice output (text-to-speech) using Android's built-in TextToSpeech engine or downloadable Sherpa-ONNX TTS models
- Semantic search across conversations using on-device embeddings
- Optional Hugging Face authentication for accessing gated AI models
The App requires a one-time internet connection to download AI models. After models are downloaded, core AI functionality works entirely offline.
The App displays banner ads via Google AdMob (with your consent). You may purchase "Remove Ads" to permanently disable all advertising.
3. Important Disclaimers
3.1 AI-Generated Content
- All responses from the App are generated by artificial intelligence models running on your device
- AI responses may contain errors, inaccuracies, or inappropriate content
- The App does NOT provide professional advice of any kind (medical, legal, financial, etc.)
- You should NOT rely on AI responses for critical decisions
- AI models have knowledge cutoff dates and may produce outdated information
3.2 Not a Professional Substitute
- The App is for general informational and entertainment purposes only
- Always consult qualified professionals for advice in their respective fields
- We are not responsible for any actions taken based on AI-generated content
3.3 Content Accuracy
- AI models may produce factually incorrect information ("hallucinations")
- Information may be outdated as models have knowledge cutoff dates
- Always verify important information from authoritative sources
3.4 Data Persistence
- All data is stored locally on your device
- Data may be lost if you clear app data, uninstall the app, or perform a factory reset
- We do not maintain backups of your conversations
- You are responsible for backing up any important information
3.5 Service Availability
- The App operates primarily offline after model download
- Internet connectivity is required for initial model downloads, ads, and optional Hugging Face authentication
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of model download servers or third-party services
4. Licence Grant
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download, install, and use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.
You may NOT:
- Modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App (except as permitted by applicable law)
- Use the App for any illegal purpose or in violation of any laws
- Use the App to generate harmful, abusive, or illegal content
- Attempt to extract or redistribute the AI models separately from the App
- Use the App in any manner that could damage or impair the App
- Sublicence, sell, or redistribute the App
- Circumvent or tamper with the ad display mechanism
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
5. AI Model Licences
The App uses AI models from third parties, each subject to their own licence terms:

By using the App, you agree to comply with all applicable AI model licence terms:

Prohibited uses include but are not limited to:
- Generating content that violates laws or regulations
- Generating content that promotes violence or harm
- Generating deceptive or fraudulent content
- Generating content that infringes on intellectual property rights
- Using models for surveillance or tracking individuals
- Using the App to develop competing AI models or services
6. User Content
"User Content" includes any text, prompts, or other content you input into the App.
You retain full ownership of your User Content.
You represent that your User Content does not:
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
- Infringe on third-party intellectual property rights
- Contain malicious code or harmful content
- Violate any AI model usage policies
Your User Content is stored locally on your device and is NOT transmitted to us or any third party. The only network activity involving your content occurs during optional Hugging Face OAuth authentication, which transmits only authentication data — never your conversations.
We do not claim any ownership or licence over your User Content. We have no ability to access, read, or process your conversations.
Content never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it via the Android share sheet (e.g., sharing diagnostic logs).
7. Hugging Face Integration (Optional)
The App offers optional integration with Hugging Face for accessing gated AI models (such as Google Gemma).
If you choose to sign in with Hugging Face:
- You agree to Hugging Face's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
- Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using AES-256-GCM encryption
- We only use authentication to download gated models on your behalf
- We request the scopes
openid,profile, andread-repos - We do NOT access your Hugging Face repositories, datasets, or other account data
You may revoke Hugging Face access at any time by signing out within the app or visiting https://huggingface.co/settings/connected-applications.
8. Advertising and In-App Purchases
8.1 Advertising
- The App displays banner ads via Google AdMob
- Ads are only shown after you provide consent through a Google-managed consent dialog (UMP SDK)
- If you decline consent, ads may still be shown but will not be personalised
- Ad data is managed entirely by Google; we do not access or store any advertising data

8.2 Remove Ads (In-App Purchase)
- You may purchase "Remove Ads" as a one-time in-app purchase via Google Play
- This permanently disables all advertising within the App
- Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play; we do not handle payment information
- Purchase restoration is available if you reinstall the App on the same Google account
8.3 Google Play Billing
- All billing is handled by Google Play in accordance with Google Play's Terms of Service
- Refund requests should be directed to Google Play
9. Privacy
Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information.
Key Points:
- All AI processing occurs locally on your device
- Chat history is stored only on your device in a local database (protected by Android's file-based encryption)
- Internet used for model downloads, ads (with consent), and optional authentication
- No analytics or user tracking
- Ads served by Google AdMob with your consent; removable via in-app purchase
10. Data Storage and Security
All your data is stored locally on your device:
- Chat conversations and personas in a Room database (protected by Android file-based encryption)
- App preferences in DataStore (protected by Android file-based encryption)
- Authentication tokens (if signed in) in AES-256-GCM encrypted storage (key encryption: AES-256-SIV via Android Keystore)
What is NOT stored externally:
- We do NOT have access to your data on any server
- We do NOT maintain backups of your conversations
- We do NOT store payment or billing information
If you lose your device, clear app data, or uninstall the App, your conversations cannot be recovered.
You are responsible for backing up any important information from your conversations.

11. Third-Party Services
The App interacts with the following third-party services:
- Google Play Store: App distribution and updates — Google Play Terms
- Google AdMob: Banner advertising (with consent) — Google Privacy Policy
- Google UMP SDK: GDPR consent management — Google Privacy Policy
- Google Play Billing: "Remove Ads" in-app purchase — Google Play Terms
- Hugging Face: Model downloads and optional authentication — HF Terms
On-device libraries (no data transmission):
- MediaPipe LLM Inference (Google) — on-device chat inference
- llama.cpp (open source) — alternative on-device LLM inference
- Sherpa-ONNX (open source) — on-device speech-to-text and text-to-speech
- Android TextToSpeech — built-in text-to-speech engine
Subject to their respective terms and policies.
12. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, code, and documentation, is owned by Cosmos One and protected by intellectual property laws.
AI models are owned by their respective creators (Google, Meta, Nomic AI, OpenAI, FunAudioLLM, Rhasspy, MyShell.ai, Mycroft AI) and licensed under their respective terms as listed in §5.
You own your User Content (conversations, prompts).
AI-generated responses may be subject to the licence terms of the underlying model. Please refer to the individual model licences in §5 for details on output ownership.
This App is "Built with Llama" as required by Meta's Llama 3.2 Community Licence.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:
- The App will meet your requirements
- The App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
- AI-generated content will be accurate, reliable, or appropriate
- Any errors in the App will be corrected
- AI models will be available for download at all times
You use the App at your own risk.
Australian Consumer Law Notice: Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy conferred on you by the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010) that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified by agreement. If the Australian Consumer Law applies, then to the extent permitted, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied.
14. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, COSMOS ONE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
- Any damages resulting from AI-generated content
- Any damages resulting from unauthorised access to your data
- Any damages resulting from interruption or cessation of the App
- Any damages arising from third-party services (Google AdMob, Google Play, Hugging Face)
For free services, our total aggregate liability shall not exceed AUD $0.
For paid features (in-app purchases), our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for in-app purchases in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
Some jurisdictions, including Australia, do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law, and the Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply as stated in §13.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Cosmos One and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the App
- Your User Content
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Your violation of AI model licence terms
16. Termination
By you: You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. All local data will be permanently deleted upon uninstallation. You can also clear app data via Android Settings > Apps > Cosmos Chat > Storage > Clear Data.
By us: We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, without prior notice, for any reason, including violation of these Terms.
Upon termination, all licences granted to you will immediately cease. Local data remains on your device until you delete it.
17. Changes to the Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part thereof) at any time without notice.
We may update the App to add features, fix bugs, improve performance, or update AI models.
We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the App.
18. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
Material changes will be communicated through the app or our website.
19. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Australia, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law or other mandatory consumer protection legislation in your jurisdiction.
20. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
21. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any applicable AI model licences (§5), constitute the entire agreement between you and Cosmos One regarding the App.
These Terms supersede any prior agreements, communications, or understandings, whether written or oral.
